News Death Notice
CLEMENT, Martha Lois beloved mother to Pixie Krumlauf and Joan Clement and much loved grandma to JR and Kristi Krumlauf passed peacefully away on Sunday, December 8. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Dick Clement. She was born February 22, 1922 in Hudson, Michigan to Fletcher and Grace (Ehlinger) Goodrich. She was a graduate of Hudson High School and Sienna Heights College, Adrian, Michigan where she was known as 'Muffy' on the girls varsity basketball team. She married Dick in June of 1946 and taught elementary school until 1948. She lived with her family at SAC Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska and in 1954 moved to Toledo where along with Dick raised their family. She returned to teaching and was active in educational associations, church activities, and civic organizations. She and Dick loved the Michigan Lake life and in 1978 retired to their home on Houghton Lake and wintered in Gulf Shores, Alabama. They moved to Springfield in 1987 and continued to winter in Gulf Shores. Martha was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church, former member of New Neighbors, White Deer Country Club, Mitchell Hills Country Club, Young Women's Mission, the Springfield Club, the Women's Town Club and the Wittenberg Guild. She was a tireless volunteer for the x-ray department of Mercy Hospital and through her love of knitting made countless caps for the newborn babies and our United States military men and women. Martha loved playing bridge, knitting, attending the University of Michigan football games - Go Blue! She enjoyed playing golf and attending various golf tournaments but her very favorite thing to do was watching JR and Kristi compete in their various sports activities. Grandma was their greatest cheerleader! A highlight for all of us were her weekly homemade cookies. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, much loved husband Dick, son-in-law Rick Krumlauf, brothers: Dorman, Phil and Bob; nephew Rob, and sister-in-law Betty. She is survived by her daughters Pixie and Joan, grandchildren, JR and Kristi, her sister Mary Brogan, sister-in-law Evelyn Goodrich, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Special appreciation to Fran, Connie, Tassie, and Joyce for their care, love, and support and to Community Mercy Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, Community Mercy Hospice, or the donor's favorite charity. Services will be held at a later date at the Northminster Presbyterian Church. You may express condolences at www.littletonandrue.com
