News Death Notice

SHIELDS, Michael D. of Springfield, died Wednesday April 16, 2014 in his residence. He was the son of Berlin G. and Opal L. (Grow) Shields. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and a member of the golf team. He served his country in the United States Army serving two tours in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and also received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Air Medal (19 OLC) and Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Navistar after thirty years. He was a member of the UAW Local 402, VFW, DAV, Union Club and Machinist Club. He enjoyed golf, bowling and traveling. He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Kay Richards-Shields. Private services will be held for the family. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Road, Springfield, Ohio 45504. The family is being served by LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
