News Death Notice
MALONE, Raymond M. age 83, of Springfield, Ohio passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012. He was born April 21, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of the late Dr. Raymond and Icie (McClure) Malone of Galion, Ohio. He was a 1947 graduate of Galion High School, where he participated in the school bands and also led a combo. He graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Business Administration in 1951. While attending Ohio State, he was a four-year member of the renowned Ohio State marching band. After graduation, Ray served in the Army Counter-Intelligence Corp as an ACIC special agent during the Korean War. He served several years with the Army C.I.C. Reserves and was discharged as a Chief Warrant Officer. He retired in 1989 after 35 years of employment with General Motors Acceptance. During his years with GMAC, Ray lived and worked in several Ohio cities including Columbus (1955-1960), Toledo (1960-1971), Kettering (1972), and later that year he was transferred to Springfield, Ohio as a branch manager. In 1975, he transferred to the North Canton area, where he remained until 1978. He then returned to Springfield to reside while being attached to the Fairborn and Dayton GMAC branches. Ray was a member of the Eagles and the Clark Lodge #101 F. & A.M. He was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served for the Rainbow Table since 2007. He was previously a member of Faith in Christ Lutheran Church, where he headed the Food Pantry. Mr. Malone played trumpet with The Sentimentalists--a local dance band--and was a member of the OSU Band Alumni. He is survived by Ann Hurst, companion for the last thirteen years. He was married for 44 years to June (Best) Malone, who died March, 1999. Survivors include three daughters; Debra (Patrick) Saluke of Monroe, Ohio, Cynthia (Woody) Winfree of Baltimore, Ohio, Michelle (Ken) Sheen of Alliance, Ohio, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother; Dr. and Mrs. Robert Malone of Gross Isle, Michigan, and a sister; Ms. Judith Malone of Columbus, Ohio. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00PM until 8:00PM Friday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Memorial services will be at 10:00AM Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor John Pollock officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mary Martha Rainbow Table (in care of St. John's Lutheran Church), Interfaith Hospitality Network, or Community Mercy Hospice.
