News Death Notice
POLLOCK, Robert W. 87, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 14, 2013. He was born June 26, 1926 in Coshocton County, Ohio, to Robert and Edna (Waggoner) Pollock. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, North Hampton, OH, for 56 years. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, serving overseas in Germany. Following his discharge, he attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1951. He began his career with IBM in Dayton, Ohio, working there for a short time before accepting a position with the Flight Test group at WPAFB. He was in Flight Test for 15 years, then transferred to the Air Force Logistics Command for another 15 years until his retirement in 1981. After retirement, Bob spent many relaxing hours tending his bountiful garden, fishing and golfing. His happiest moments, though, were spent with his wife and children, and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He delighted in their accomplishments and was always there to offer his encouragement. Lauren and Evan, especially, provided so much joy to his later days. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Donna; his daughter, Connie of Springfield; son and daughter- in-law, Bob and Linda of Springfield; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Tresa of Santa Barbara, CA; grandchildren, Melinda Mowell; Tonya Whitman; Ted Allen; Robert Pollock IV; Rick Pollock; Kelly Mabry; Bruce Pollock; sister, Gayle Welker; sister-in-law, Mabel Pollock; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edna Pollock; brother, Ralph Pollock; sisters, Dorothy Hamilton-Kurtz; Kathryn Goodin- Wiker; and Joyce Poland. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 18, at Asbury United Methodist Church in North Hampton, Ohio, with pastors Steve Hayes and Darcy Dill officiating. The family will greet friends from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm immediately followed by a memorial service. Burial to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Higher Education Fund at Asbury UMC, 104 E. Clark St, North Hampton, OH 45349.
