The Guest Book is expired.

It is with great sadness we share the loss of David Lee Pirkle, 41. He died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at his home in Keystone Heights. David followed in his father"s and grandfather"s footsteps in his career. He graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor"s degree in geology where he continued with post graduate studies. He was a geologist with Gannett Fleming Inc., Jacksonville, Fla. He resided in Keystone Heights for the past 11 years, after living in Gainesville for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Owen-Pirkle of Keystone Heights; his parents, Fredric L. and Sandra Weyman Pirkle of St. Augustine, Fla.; his brothers, Wesley Pirkle (Christy) of Columbus, Ohio, Kevin Pirkle (Alana) of Gainesville, Fla.; and his maternal grandmother, Ellen Weyman of Elizabethtown, Pa.

David will be remembered for his easy-going spirit and being an all-around great guy. He loved watching NASCAR racing and Gator football. He was happiest outdoors whether working in the yard or simply enjoying leisure activities. He also had a special way with animals and generously shared his home and love with his pets.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a favorite animal shelter or rescue in David"s name would be nice.

A memorial to celebrate David"s life is being planned for Dec. 1, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, 300 SW 2nd Avenue, Gainesville, Fla.

Arrangements are under the care of Milam Funeral and Cremation Services, 311 South Main St., Gainesville, FL 32601 (352) 376-5361.
