Doyle William Solana, 77, St. Augustine, died Sept. 17, 2013, at Flagler Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of St. Augustine, Doyle retired from Fairchild Aviation as the union president. He was a member of the American Legion Post 37 where he was past commander and bar manager, a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW Post 2391, Fraternal Order of Eagle Aerie 4256 and was a nationally known horse jockey. He was of the Catholic faith.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Booth, officiating. Interment will follow in San Lorenzo Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday at St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Osteen; two brothers, Alton and Gerald Solana; and a stepson, Edward Gorum.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Solana; three daughters, Diana Kinlaw, Joan Wright, Susan Solana; son, Daniel Holleman, all of St. Augustine; two stepsons, Eddie Gorum, Clermont, Fla., Wayne Ratliff, Morristown, Tenn.; two brothers, Verle Solana, St. Augustine, Phillip Solana, Jacksonville; a sister, Barbara Braddock, St. Augustine; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
