Ernest Hiram Love Jr., 90, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully on Sunday Aug. 11, 2013, at the Bailey Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 6, 1923, in Freeport, Ill., to Ernest Sr. and Ethel Love. He was an honorable Navy Pilot in World War II earning the Victory Medal. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a civil engineering degree and was in the aerospace industry for 40 years before retiring. He enjoyed his life to the fullest with many travels, activities and friends and much love to his family. He retired to Mexico where he became first vice commander of The American Legion Alvarez Castillo Post Three, in Guadalajara and had been on the executive board for 10 years. He was also a faithful member to the Elks Lodge 829 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 4256.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, son, Philip Love and daughter, Leesa Laws.
He is survived by his sons, Ernest Hiram (Jeanne-Marie) Love III, Kingsley Love, Danny Love; daughters, Linda (Gene) Lipton, Laura (Larry) Adams; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Craig Funeral Home with the Rev. David Shokes, officiating. A visitation beginning at 5 p.m. will precede the service. A gathering to honor him will follow at the Eagles Lodge at 13 South Dixie Highway.
