Frances Lee Jacobs, 78, passed away at the McGraw Hospice Center on Sept. 9, 2013. Fran was born in Lillis, Kan., to Dueard and Catherine Bell. After receiving her bachelor"s in nursing from Sacred Heart University, she spent time as a civilian nurse in Vietnam where she met her future husband, Bill Jacobs. Following the birth of their son Bill Jr., she completed her masters degree in nursing at the University of North Carolina.
After moving to Florida in 1971, she worked in the community mental health system of Columbia County while pursuing her Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Florida. Fran worked as a professor of psychiatric nursing at the University of Florida until her retirement in 1996 when she moved to St. Augustine full time. During her retirement, she volunteered with Head Start of St. Johns County and traveled extensively both domestically and internationally.
Fran is survived by her husband, William J. Jacobs Sr.; her son, William J. Jacobs Jr. and his wife J.L.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Glenmoor. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Second Harvest of N.F. 1731 Dobbs Road, St. Augustine, FL 32084.
