George Morris McClure, 61, of St. Augustine, Fla., passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1951, in Knoxville, Tenn. He was a resident of St. Augustine since 1967, and was a graduate of St. Augustine High School, Cornell University and the University of Florida College of Law. George practiced law in St. Johns County for more than 35 years and was a former city commissioner and mayor of St. Augustine Beach. Most recently he served on the boards of Flagler Hospital, The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind and the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum.

He formerly served as a board member for the St. Augustine Rotary Club, the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Florida, and was a co-founder of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired Service Center of St. Johns County. He was a former Volunteer of the Year for the St. Johns County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, former member of the St. Augustine-St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce, former member and chair of the St. Johns County Economic Development Council and the former president of the St. Johns County Bar Association.

George was an avid tennis player, pilot and a big supporter of the Limelight Theatre, the American Cancer Society Cattle Baron"s Ball and the Florida Gators. He also loved running and participating in 5Ks around town. He was a kind and generous person, a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and a friend to many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dasha K. McClure of St. Augustine; mother, Mary L. McClure of Ponte Vedra Beach; sons, Benjamin B. McClure of Napa, Calif., Samuel C. McClure (Robin) and Coby J. McClure, both of St. Augustine; brother, William B. McClure (Lynnwood) of St. Augustine; sisters, Mary H. Kendrick (Thomas) of Columbus, Ind., Helen M. Bush of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Evan B. McClure of St. Augustine, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 36 Sevilla St., St. Augustine, FL 32084. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the Fellowship Hall adjacent to the church.
