James Irwin "Jim" Masters, 82, of Elkton, Fla., died July 1, 2013, at Flagler Hospital.

He was born on May 12, 1931, in St. Augustine. He was a native and lifelong resident of St. Augustine and St. Johns County. He graduated high school from St. Joseph Academy in 1949. During his life he also attended the University of Florida, Frederick Community College, Portsmouth Va., and St. Johns River Community College, Palatka, Fla. He retired from the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve after 30 years of service in 1979. He was a combat veteran, serving in the Occupation of Japan after WWII, the Korean War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a State of Florida Master Electrician and owned and operated Jim Masters Electric.

Jim was a lifelong member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Elkton, the Rev. Fr. Mediplaili celebrant. Burial will be in St. Ambrose Cemetery with full military honors.

He was the son of the late Ambrose B. Sr. and Ruth D. Masters of Elkton, Fla.

Jim was the husband of the late Mary Alice Masters; they were married 55 years.

Preceded in death by his two brothers, John Eugene Masters and Ambrose B. Masters Jr., and brother-in-laws, Dr. Joseph Thomas, Harold Lore, David Lore, Allen Teeter, Woody Teeter and Albert Davis.

He is survived by his daughters, Holly M. Rodriquez (Carlos) and Amy L. Masters; his sons: James D. (Vickie), Harry L. (Jean), Joseph K. (Beth), Darryl J. (Tina); sisters, Joan Tringali (Dominic), Virginia Schrenker (Jack), Janice Thomas, Sr. Mary Ruth Masters; brothers, Thomas J. Masters (Pat), David A. Masters (Esther) and Henry Paul Masters (Pauline); sisters-in-law, Bettie Masters, Janice Davis, Jeanette Teeter, Sherry Teeter, Patricia Lore and Juanita Lore; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katie, Carlos D., Jessica, Linnea, Melissa (Wes), Matthew (Brittaney), Jamie (Steve), Michael (Kim), Ethan and Jillian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
