John L. Coffey, age 87, of St. Augustine, died July 19, 2014, at his home. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had resided in St. Augustine since 2006, moving here from Boynton Beach. John served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an Emmy Award winning television director for 27 years, directing "All My Children." He was a member of the Village Church, the Men"s Golf Association in Palencia, and he founded the "Maggies" trivia team in Palencia. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Private graveside services took place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Pastors Bob May and Alan Liphart officiating. Military honors were rendered by the U.S. Navy.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 66 year, Alice Coffey, on May 8, 2014.

He is survived by his children, Kathleen Lawlor, S. Windsor, Conn., Eileen Young, St. Augustine, Alice Herro, Center Moriches, N.Y., John Coffey, Apollo Beach, Patricia Walsh, Beaufort, S.C., Mary Moore, East Islip, N.Y., Thomas Coffey, Mclean, Va., Matthew Coffey, Dix Hills, N.Y., Timothy Coffey, Lithia, Terence Coffey, Commack, N.Y.; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
