Richard Blackburn Johnson, 81, passed away at his home Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Rich lived in Lincoln Park, N.J., for 75 years before moving to St. Augustine. He retired as a construction inspector from Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, N.J., after 30 years of service. Rich was a lifelong, faithful member of the Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Rich was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing tennis and golf in his younger years and later played softball for the State of New Jersey in the Senior Olympics. Most of all he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Anne; son, Rick (Tammy), and four grandchildren, Ricky, Miles, Andrew and Ella, all of St. Augustine. A funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at San Sebastian Catholic Church followed by a luncheon at the church. Richard will be interred at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing may make a donation to Community Hospice of NE Florida or S.A.F.E. animal rescue.
