Naomi Barko Volberg, 85, a retired journalist and writer, died December 11 at Stamford Hospital after complications from surgery. Ms. Volberg was born in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from New York University.
During the 1960s she lived in Manhattan and wrote the newsletter for the National Council of Jewish Women. After taking time off to raise her daughter, Ms. Volberg, an ardent feminist, returned to work in the mid-1970s and wrote for the political magazine Women's Action Alliance. During the 80s and 90s she wrote for Working Mother magazine, as well as freelance articles for many publications on issues concerning women, children and education. In retirement, Ms. Volberg continued to write and remain active in politics. A lover of books, she read constantly and currently belonged to a Swarthmore alumni book group. With her infectious laugh, deep intelligence and big heart, she brought her family great joy and endless love. Survivors include her husband David, daughter Rebecca Coniglio of Los Angeles, CA; step-daughters Rachel Moore of Northampton, MA and Deborah Pagnotta of Yorktown Heights, NY; and two grandchildren.
