Dr. William "Bill" Woodrow Ryan passed away peacefully at home in Morrison, Colorado on May, 27, 2014 at the age of 65 from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Bill was born in Waconia, Minnesota on July 31, 1948 to Woodrow and Leona (Holtz) Ryan. He was the proud father to sons Michael and Matthew with wife, Sheila (Koehnen) Ryan and daughters Brynn and Haleigh with longtime partner, Kay Wyler. Bill graduated from the University Of Minnesota School Of Veterinary Medicine in 1972 and completed his internship and surgical residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. He worked at the Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey until 1984, when he bought a small animal hospital in Darien, Connecticut with two business partners where he practiced as a general practitioner and surgical specialist until 2011. During those years he and his colleagues ran a very successful and nationally recognized veterinary internship program. They also built several veterinary referral and emergency centers in Connecticut. Bill was highly revered in his profession as a surgeon by the veterinary community. He was also an avid outdoorsman who spent most of his time off hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. He loved his family and pets, and cherished his many dear friends. Bill will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, his pride in his family, his appreciation of a good joke, and quick wit.
Bill is survived by Kay Wyler of Morrison, CO, Sheila Ryan of Mahwah, NJ, sons Michael Ryan (Susan) of Dracut, MA and Matthew Ryan (Jennifer) of Laguna Niguel, CA, daughters Brynn Mood (Corey) of Denver, CO and Haleigh Wyler of Stamford, CT, sister Margaret Lavalle of Waconia, MN, grandchildren Declan, Rachael, Erin, Alexandra, and August, and many nieces and nephews.
