Zaccagnino, Salvatore
Salvatore Zaccagnino, 86, a Stamford resident passed away on September 24th at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born on May 8th, 1927 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Nicola and Anna (Imbrenda) Zaccagnino. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Grace (DeBartolomeo) Zaccagnino.
He graduated from J.M. Wright Technical School in 1945. Sal served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was the owner and operator of Sal's Variety Shoppe on Cove Road for 27 years. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Mary Ann Pasqua, Donna Pappas and husband Nick, Linda Rosito and husband John, Sally Lovallo and husband Bill; brothers, Anthony and Nicholas Zaccagnino; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Nicholas, Jennifer, Lauren, Michael, John, Christopher, Valerie, and William; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Beatrice Ambrosio and Maria Zaccagnino.
Sal was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus St. Augustine Council 41, and the past President of the North Stamford Lions Club. He was proud of his Italian Aviglianese heritage and spending time with his family especially at the "Zac Pak". When he wasn't cooking or making wine, he was sharing family history and traditions with his grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling and loved to play bocce especially in Florida. His proudest accomplishment was his family. He was an example and inspiration to all he came in contact with. His love, selflessness and generosity was felt by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 28 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home and Crematin Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford on Friday, September 27 from 4-8p.m. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the North Stamford Lions Club, 53 Larkin Street, Stamford, CT 06906.
