Theresa Ann Czarnecki Vitti, age 51 passed away on March 4, 2014, at Stamford Hospital following a long courageous battle with cancer. Terri was born in Stamford, Connecticut on October 29, 1962.
Terri attended Stamford High School and obtained an Associate's Degree from Norwalk Community College. Terri then continued her education and received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Phoenix. Beginning in April 1985 Terri joined the Stamford Police Department and was promoted to Sergeant in January 2002. Terri had been assigned too many different positions within the Police Department including Patrol, Youth Bureau, Communications, Internal Affairs, Street Narcotics (COPE), Street Crime Unit and most recently as the Supervisor for the Records Retention Division. Terri was still an active member of the department at the time of her death. Terri's husband, Mark, is also an active member of the Stamford Police Department. Terri received many awards and letters of recognition during her time as a police officer. Terri was known affectionately by her co-workers and people she knew on the street as "Big Red" for her flowing red hair.
Terri's passions included playing softball, horses and enjoying time spent vacationing in the Adirondacks of upstate New York.
She is survived by her mother, Margaret Aylward Czarnecki, her sister Catherine Czarnecki of Park City, Utah and a brother, Tommy Asbury of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Terri was pre-deceased by her father, Edward Czarnecki.
Calling hours will be at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, on Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT from 4pm to 8pm on Friday March 7, 2014.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT on Saturday March 8, 2014 at 10am.
Memorial Donations can be made in Terri's name to Pegasus Farm 31 Peach Lake Road, Brewster, NY 10509

We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the Sgt. Terri Vitti cancer benefit that was held at Zody's 19th Hole restaurant on December 16,2013. The benefit was sponsored by members of the Stamford Police Association. We are truly touched by the outpouring of love, support and generosity by families, friends, co-workers and the Greater Stamford community.
A special thank you to the Stamford Police Association, Stamford Fire & Rescue Department, Zody's 19th Hole restaurant, Jump the Gunn Band and the Waterbury Police Pipes and Drums.
We are truly blessed to have so many wonderful people in our lives and we will be forever grateful for your kindness.
