Irving Newman, age 90 of Bath, NY, formerly of Elmira, NY, son of Louis and Sarah Newman, died Sunday morning, January 5th, 2014. Irving was a self-employed photographer specializing in publicity and interior design. A World War II veteran, he served overseas in the Army Air Corp's photo reconnaissance lab. He was born in New York City on January 18, 1923 and was a graduate of New York University. He and his wife moved to Elmira in 1988. Irving turned his passion for photography into his life's work. He also loved movies and performing magic tricks for family and friends. His loving wife of 50 years, Ruth Ellen Newman, died in 1998. He is survived by his son, David and his wife, Carol of Crofton, MD; and daughter, Anne Lakota and her husband, Alex of Kanona, NY. He is also survived by three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother, Leonard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 8th, at 3:00 p.m. at Congregation Kol Ami, 1008 West Water St., Elmira, NY, Rabbi Miriam Biatch officiating.
