Collins, Richard "Rick"L.

Richard "Rick" L Collins, 66, of Apalachin came to the end of his life's journey on Thursday, July 3, 2014 after a 15-month battle with cancer. Husband, Son, Father, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, Friend. Rick is predeceased by his parents Richard W Collins & Althea Head, and brother Larry Wirtanen. Rick is survived by his wife Melanie Smith; daughter Jessamyn Fuller; grandchildren - Niko, Hayden (Amanda), Marshall & Livinia; mother-in-law Madolin Smith; sisters - Toni (Don) Copeland, Donna (Steve) Simons; brothers - Dave (DeDe), Bob (Sheila), Mike (Joanne), Joe (Debber), Terry; Aunts - Esther Leupp, Alice Crapser & Bev Collins; many nieces, nephews & cousins; special friends Ed Broussard & Steve Daniel. Rick is also survived by his beloved pets Kaylee, Otis and Rodney who were his living shadows. Rick served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and after reconnecting with shipmates after many years held those friendships dear to his heart. Over the years he worked in several industries including brake design engineering, heavy equipment sales, and construction. His passion was woodworking and maintaining his home and property. Rick made an impression on all he met, whether good or bad. There will be no calling hours or service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Rick can be made to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, Hematology/Onocology, 800 Irving Ave, Syracuse NY 13210 whose entire medical staff's compassion and kindness went beyond their call of duty.
