Vern Wood Jr., age 64 of Wellton, AZ died on Monday, November 20, 2012. Vern grew up in Breesport and was the oldest son of Vern Sr. and Frances Wood. Vern was predeceased by his brother, Gary (Sparky) Wood in 1974 and his father, Vern Sr. in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Dawn; his mother, Frances Wood of Oregon, two sisters, Sherry Wood of Horseheads; Robin (John) Wikoff of Oregon; sons, Christopher, Vern III and Timothy. Vern served his country as sergeant of the armory while in the US Marines Corp. For 17 years he lived in Arizona. During that time he and his Marine brothers belonged to a Marine Biker Group that shared their love of Harleys. He was a 28 year member of the Elmira Heights American Legion. Vern retired from the US Post Office in Elmira. Before working at the Post Office he was a carpenter by trade. Vern loved every one of the dogs that he rescued from abused and neglected homes. Family and friends are invited to attend a military service in his honor on Friday, March 15th, 2013 at 11:00 at the Woodlawn National Cemetery (off Davis St.) in Elmira.
