Not sure what to say?

10 years, but it still hurts like yesterday. Augie and his beautiful light & goodness will always be remembered. We lift up him and his family in prayer.

To the Schroeder family:
I just want you to know we all remember Augie very well.. I was just thinking of him today, in fact. I was telling soemone about him and even after all of these years, I become choked up and really couldn't talk any more. He was such a great kid. I remember driving him on the many Boyscout camping trips and the fun he had at those times. He will always be remembered..

…It still saddens me to know of the loss of Augie.
When I last saw him he was just a quiet good kid and one of the many who had signed up to play Pop Warner football for the Maplewood/South Orange Packers and who I had the privilege to coach. That was over 20 years ago, but his positive attitude, willingness to learn, and good spirited demeanor still resonates in my memory …(he was just that kind of a kid:-)). My prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to the Schroder family, especially on this Memorial Day weekend when we honor the memory of those who truly gave in service to our country.
Sincerely,

Dearest Schroeder Family ~

In my search for my Schroeder relatives, I was shaken to read of Edward's death. Is "Augie" short for August, and possibly the namesake of August Ewert? Edward was also a family name - several of August's grandsons had that name. August, his daughter Elisabeth and her 2nd husband, Gottfried Frederick Schoeder, and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins lie in the Lutheran Cemetery, too; they will all watch over their possible young descendant.

If we are from the same family, I'm stunned that Augie's tragic death has helped me to find you. If we aren't related by family, then we are united in sorrow over the loss of a young US Marine.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know 'Auggie', but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I was doing ROTC at Rutgers when he was talking about joining the Marines. We both had an interest in law enforcement. To the entire Schroeder Family: I just came upon this about your son today as I was looking for something on my computer. We are grateful for the ultimate sacrifice your son gave to all of
us--freedom. We lost our grandson in November 2006, the day before Thanksgiving. Tough holiday's. It does not matter what year these young Heroes have given their lives, it still hurts and we miss them. We are starting our 2nd year of walking through the mud of grief and we will come out on the other side of it. It is not an easy walk, but walk it we must. Our sincere condolences to you and yours. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all in your walk. God Bless you all. With deepest sympathy that many do not understand.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

In time, there will come a day when the tears of sorrow will softly flow into sighs of remembrance. Your heart will begin to heal itself.

Grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy; and you will hear the whisper of hope.

There will come a day when you will welcome the pangs of remembrance as a sun shower of the soul; a turning of the tide; the promise of peace.

There will come a day when you will risk loving, go on believing,

and treasure the remembering.

To the Families of Lance Cpl. Schroeder,

Please accept my deepset condolences on the loss of "Augie". Your son was brave, relentless and he did not die in vain. He died because he fought what he believed in. There is nothing I can say or do to understand the paid you are feeling but I feel the pain for each of the families of these soldiers who have lost their lives because they fought for our freedom. Yes they paid a great price for our freedom, but this was their destiny, this was what they needed to do as men and as soldiers. You raised a fine son, nephew, brother, cousin etc. He will never be forgotten and always remembered for what he did to save the rest of us from the worst enemy out there.

May he rest in peace knowing our world is now a better place because of what he did.

To the Parents and Family of Lance Cpl. Edward A. Schroeder:

I personally wanted to thank you for having to pay the ultimate price for the freedom of my family and myself. You do not know me and I do not know you. However I have three small sons whom one day I’m certain will have the same bravery and courage as your son. I felt obligated to send you my condolences though we have never and most likely will never meet. Your son is my hero!

To the Schroeders,

I know no words at this time can touch your pain.

All of Maplewood and South Orange is mourning for Augie, along with others across the world.

If anything remotely positive force can come out of this at all, I hope you can make a difference, and that people are listening to the statements you are making. I support you, your old hometown supports you.

With love and a great sadness,

My deepest heart felt sympathy to Augie's family. He is a true Hero who gave the Ultimate Sacrifice. I raised my Nephew who I consider my Son. He is with the 3/25 Weapons Co out of Akron and is still in Iraq. He told me Augie was one of his Best friends. His name is LCPL Michael J. Boerio. He has felt a great loss over all the Fallen Heroes with Augie being one of the most. May God Bless Augie's Soul. My deepest compassion and Heart felt Love to your family. May God be with you during this difficult time. Maria Hennessy

Augie had been a friend of mine at Ohio State. He was a friend and neighbor. I can remember how selfless he was, always helpful to those who needed it... even sorority friends with a broken grill. It broke my heart to hear of his death, but as a member of a family with many current military ties, I know he was proud to serve his country. I will never forget his kindness and warm heart. I'm proud of Augie and every military service man and woman serving in Iraq and around the world.
