Doris McDonald Pickard, 98, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean P. Credle and husband, William, of Wilmington; two sons, Robert M. Pickard and wife, Sherrill, of Cypress, TX, and Steven M. Pickard and wife, Sue, of Wilmington; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Jean Marie McDonald of Winston-Salem, NC, and Margaret Ann McDonald of Kernersville, NC.

Mrs. Pickard was born July 22, 1914, in Elkhart, IN, daughter of the late Chester Oliver McDonald and Maude Frame McDonald. Her husband of 54 years, Dr. Henry Mack Pickard, and her brother, Dr. Thane E. McDonald, preceded her in death.

She graduated from Elkhart High School, attended Indiana University and graduated in 1937 from the University of Michigan School of Nursing. Her professional years included private duty nursing in the University Hospital, staff duty in Queens Hospital in Honolulu, HI and the Elkhart General Hospital and office duty with her physician husband in Wilmington until his retirement in 1978.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and for many years a member of the New Hanover County Medical Society Auxiliary and a life member of the University of Michigan School of Nursing Alumni Association.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm Friday, May 10, 2013, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Commons at Brightmore, Home Instead Senior Care, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter for their loving care.
