HENRY WEST HICKS HENRY WEST HICKS, age 60, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014 while boating near his home on Anna Maria Island, Florida. Henry grew up in the Hayes Barton area of Raleigh, and played basketball for Needham B. Broughton High School. He was a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and Tulane University Law School. Henry practiced law in Tampa, Florida for 35 years, where he was a Board Certified Real Estate Attorney and the founder of Henry W. Hicks P.A. and TitleMark of Tampa. Henry was happiest when he was surrounded by his friends and family. He was an avid cyclist and had an immense love for the water. Henry is the son of the late Dr. Vonnie Monroe Hicks, Jr. and the late Peggy West Hicks of Raleigh. Henry is survived by his wife Christine, his daughter Jessie Helfrich-Hicks, and his stepchildren, Jayne Major and Sam Major. He is also survived by his brother Vonnie Monroe Hicks, III, and his wife Elizabeth Norval of Raleigh, his sister Jane Lea Hicks of Conroe, Texas, and his brother Thomas Stephen Hicks and his wife Sandye of Wilmington. Henry is also survived by his nephew and nieces: Josh Hicks, his wife Suzie, and their son Linus Henry Hicks; Zac Burgess-Hicks, his wife Candace, and their son Kal; John Hicks; Berkley Ann Hicks; Keith Norval, his wife Anna, and their daughter Ingrid. He is also survived by Mrs. Joan Swiger of Raleigh, who served as his mother after the death of his parents. A memorial will be held at 3 pm Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, Tampa, Florida. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service at the Tampa Yacht Club.
