MARY BLAND HOFFLER LANIER Mrs. Mary Bland Hoffler Lanier of Wallace, NC, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Wallace Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. Philip Gladden. Burial will follow at Rockfish Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by a son, Robert Edward Lanier, Jr. and wife Violet of Rose Hill, NC, two grandchildren, Robert Edward Lanier, III and wife Cira of Wallace, NC, and Mary Kathryn Smith and husband Jason of Rose Hill, NC, four great grandchildren, Sarah, Elijah, Jonathan, and Tristan, a sister, Lou Hoffler Bright of Apex, NC, and three nieces, Sarah, Mary Lou, and Martha and three special cousins, Brother Pope and wife Peggy of Greensboro, NC, Mary Jane Evans and husband David of Cheraw, SC, and Mary Anna Bessellieu of Wilmington, NC. Born February 21, 1923 in Wallace, NC, Mrs. Lanier was the daughter of the late John Willard and Ethel Mae Boney Hoffler and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Lanier, Sr. and her stepmother, Louise Carter Hoffler. Mary was a lifetime member of the Wallace Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Lanier worked as a school teacher at the Wallace Elementary School retiring after 35 years. A very generous woman, Mary loved spending time with her family and friends but especially loved the time with all her grandchildren.
