Berres, Alice Kathryn age 95, of Edina, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2013. She was born on November 30, 1917 to Dr. A.L. Domeier and Frieda (Siefert) Domeier in their home in Springfield, MN. She was preceded in death by them, a brother Christian John Domeier, who was killed on Iwo Jima in 1945, and a sister Therese Schmitz of Springfield. Also preceding her were two children, Elizabeth in 1953, and James Paul in 1964. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Robert J. Berres; and six children, Robert J. (Judi) Berres Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Pat (Skip) Mills of Omaha, NE, John (Kathy) Berres of Alberta, MN, Ann Berres of Burnsville, MN, Margaret (Tom) Asby of Eden Prairie, MN and Tom (Deb) Berres of Rosemount, MN. Also there are sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Donna English of Hermosa Beach, CA, brother, Leo (Charlotte) Domeier of St. Cloud, MN and thirty-two nieces and nephews. Alice graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1939 with a BA and election to Phi Beta Kappa, followed by an MA in 1942. Her first year of teaching high school English was in Longville, MN where she met her future husband. This was followed by two years at University High School and a year in Faribault, MN. Following her marriage to Robert Berres on November 28, 1942, she became a "stay at home mom" for the next twenty-three years until all of the children were in school. Then in 1965, she accepted a position to teach English and Social Studies at Minnetonka High School, where she remained for twenty years, until retirement. After retirement, Alice and Bob moved to their lake home at Maple Lake, MN and began a life of travel. They visited the capitals of all fifty states, as well as at least twenty foreign countries in Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. In 1997 with the sale of their lake home, they moved back to Edina until 2008 when they moved to the Colony of Eden Prairie. In 2011 they moved back to Edina to York Gardens. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 11, 11 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 5071 Eden Ave, Edina. Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at the church. Private Burial at St. Henry's Cemetery in Monticello, MN.
