McGinnis, John F. Age 78, Chanhassen and Mound, lost his battle with esophageal cancer on January 9 with his family by his side at the Minneapolis VA Hospital. He was born on January 21, 1934 in Scranton, PA to Thomas & Marie McGinnis. He served in the US Army 1955-1957 and attained the rank of Staff Sargent. While in the service, he attended classes at Tulane University. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores; his 5 children Kevin, MaryEllen, Patrick, Maureen (Chris) Connery and Molly; and his grandsons Collin & Liam Connery. John was well known in the Westonka and Chanhassen areas for his fundraising efforts on behalf of the local food shelves. He would sing karaoke and pass the hat for donations to buy holiday turkeys for needy families. Visitation Thursday, January 17 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave S. From 3-6 pm with a service at 5:30 pm. A reception to celebrate his life will follow at 7 pm at the American Legion Post 580, 290 Lake Drive East, Chanhassen.
