Blake-Plunkett, Katherine (Kitty) Kitty died of cancer at her home in California on September 7, 2013. Preceded in death by father Allan J. Blake, M.D., and brother George T. Blake. Survived by loving husband John L. Plunkett (San Diego, CA), mother Jeanette Blake (Hopkins, MN), sister Patricia Blake (Edina, MN), brother Douglas Blake (Santa Barbara, CA), sister-in-law Katherine Helm Blake (Lakeville, MN), sister-in-law Debbie Plunkett and mother-in-law Lorraine Plunkett (Austin, MN). Throughout her lifetime, Kitty nurtured her creative talents. She pursued an interior design certificate, and gloves in hand, would refinish, rebuild, paint, wallpaper and re-upholster everything in sight After moving to San Diego, Kitty started a flower arranging business. Table arrangements for weddings and business dinners became her specialty. She did tole painting, designed and cut her own wood pieces to work on, created her own paint colors and developed a very distinctive style. She designed needlepoint canvases, did calligraphy, and was a gourmet cook. In the early years of their marriage, Kitty and John lived in Bloomington, MN and Kittty joined the Jaycee Women's Club. Through that organization, Kitty was a volunteer for The Special Olympics and served on the committee that published the cookbook titled "The Recipe Box". Part of the Jaycee Women's Creed states "May we leave the world a better place because we lived and served within it" Through her kindness and compassion to others, and her creative artistic talents that added beauty to many homes and social gatherings, Kitty fulfilled that creed. An open house memorial reception to celebrate Kitty's life will be held on Saturday, October 12 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. (Located at 1111 Main Street in Hopkins.)
