COWAN, Alfred "Pro" Smith|
Alfred Smith Cowan, 80, of Austin, TX. Was born March 4, 1933 and departed from this world at his home on Dec. 7,2013.
Alfred retired after 35 year service from the Texas Highway Dept. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a proud member of the VFW Post 8925 for 50 plus years and a 60 year member of Sons of Hermann Lodge #110 of Niederwald, TX. He was also a member of the Pecan Grafter Assoc. of America.
Alfred was a devoted, hard-working man who cherished his family. He loved to sing, play his guitar, and dance. He took great pride in his beautifully manicured lawn and much of his past time was spent gardening, fishing at the Bottom and riding his riding lawn mower. However, his favorite times were spent taking scenic rides in the car. He loved Luling hot sausage and good o'le pineapple malt from Dairy Queen. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Claramae Cowan, of 50 years.
He is survived by his brother, L.B. Cowan and wife Shirley; his daughters, Sandra Winninger, Karen Hash husband Terry Hash, and Brenda Keily. He leaves behind six grandchildren Brandon, Chris, and Brian Borthwick; Jessica and Eric Keily; Brittany Kelley-Keily; three great grandchildren Kirstin, Adyson, and Eric Jr.
Brenda Keily would like to give thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice, with a special thanks to Kelly McMinn.
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Harrell Funeral Home, Austin, TX. Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2013 at Harrell Funeral Chapel, Austin, TX. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery.
