Ann Corn McAshan Baker Obituary
Ann Corn McAshan Baker Ann Corn McAshan Baker passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Born August 27, 1934 to Harris McAshan and Frances Corn McAshan in Houston, Texas, she was proud to be from a pioneer Texas family. Her love of the outdoors grew from summers spent at her grandparents' ranch in Tarrant and Parker Counties. She made lifelong friends and had many adventures while attending St. Mary's Hall in San Antonio and the University of Texas in Austin. There she met the love of her life, Robert L. Baker (Bobby), with whom she shared many loving years filled with family and friends. They raised their three children in Houston. Special memories include trips to New Mexico, Terramar Beach, the Place in Gonzales, and Wolf Creek Ranch near Kerrville. Most recently they made their home at Camp House Ranch in Fredericksburg. Ann devoted her keen mind and considerable talents to numerous pursuits. She served as president of the Junior League of Houston and was a proud member of the Garden Club of Houston. She served as a development director for the South Texas School of Law, and led numerous fundraising drives and events on behalf of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. Ann was a very special wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. While stories of fun and adventure abound, she will be remembered most for her genuine love for family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby. She is survived by her son Harris, his wife, Emily, and their children, Reed and Sarah; son Frank, and his children, Caroline, Harris, and Claire; and daughter Louise and her children Baker and Elouise. She is also survived by her sister Martha Guerin, sister Aline Gaubert and her husband, Paul, and their families. The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to Annie Walker, Mary Jane Perez and Linda Seip, R.N., for the loving care they provided. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 601 West Creek Street, Fredericksburg, TX 78624, followed by a reception at the family ranch.
