Barbara Lynette McClung Obituary
Barbara Lynette McClung Barbara Lynette McClung, a gifted painter with a unique sense of humor, died September 11 , 2013. Barbara was born in Kerens, Texas on December 13, 1931, and was the only child of Ellen Seale and Andrew McClung of Kerens. Barbara was a Phi Beta Kappa at Southern Methodist University, from which she graduated in 1953. She attended Mt. Holyoke College in 1957. In 1965 she earned an M.A. in history from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. Barbara's paintings were shown in several of the Texas Fine Arts Association's exhibitions in the 1970's, as well as in Chatauqua, New York and New Orleans, LA. Predominant in her paintings are animals in an increasingly fragile environment. Barbara felt wildlife to be so threatened that she painted animals as immigrants to outer space, an idea still present in the minds of many concerned with the future of human populations today. Barbara is survived by cousins Mrs. Herbert Gentry, Barbara Sunday, David Gentry and Rick Gentry of Austin, by Ben Brister of McKinney, TX, Peggy Fuller of Atlanta, GA, and Sherry Goldston of Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving Barbara are her beloved god-children Steve McFarland of Washington, D.C. and his sister Anne McFarland of Dallas, as well as her two long-time soul-mates Virginia Higginbotham and Yvonne Becerra. Her two canines, Clifford and Flower, helped lift her spirits as she succumbed to lung disease in her final days. A private service honoring Barbara's memory will be held later. Contributions to honor Barbara's memory may be made to the Austin Humane Society, 124 W. Anderson Lane, Austin, 78757, or to Christopher House (christopherhouse.org).
