Charles Oertli Obituary
Charles Henry Oertli Charles Henry Oertli passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013, the night of his 84th birthday. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Earline Kotzebue Oertli; children Cindy Thomas and husband David, Diane Streit and husband Eric, Chuck Oertli and wife Lori; grandchildren Bradley, Kellie, and Whitney Thomas, Christopher Streit, Blaine Oelschlegel and husband Sam, Courtney Vaughan and husband Dustin, Jack and Kristin Oertli; and sister Martha Grohmann. He was preceded in death by his sister Gretchen Morgan. Charlie was born in Austin on September 25, 1929 to Henry and Martha Doering Oertli. He attended Austin public schools, graduating from Austin High School in 1946. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1954. Upon returning home, Charlie began working at Union Carbide in Victoria. It was there that he met a cute girl named Earline. He asked her to change her last name to his, and a lifetime of adventure began. Earline and Charlie were married on June 1, 1957 in Victoria. Charlie completed his BBA in Accounting in 1958 at the University of Texas, and started working in the savings and loan industry. He worked as an executive for various institutions in Austin until his retirement in 1992. Charlie and Earline were fortunate to travel to many destinations. Some of their latest travels took them to Europe, the Middle East, Nevada, Louisiana, Alaska, and anywhere the next bowling tournament was being held. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 30, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar. A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at 6:30 p.m. at St. Martin's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, October 1. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the St. Martin's Endowment Fund, 606 W. 15th Street, Austin, 78701. Obituary and memorial guestbook available online at www.wcfish.com
