HEILAND, Dennis J.

On the morning of June 9, 2014, Dennis passed away at home, comforted by his wife.

He was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 4, 1934, the son of Grace (Knuth) and Eugene Heiland. He was the adopted son of Alex Schutz.

He graduated as an Engineer from the University of Minnesota, served as a captain in the US Army, and joined IBM in 1963, retiring in 1992.

He married Betty Wenzel of Hopkins in 1956, with whom he raised Denise (Jim) Dorsey, Scott (Susan), and Kelly (Deron) Matthews. They survive him along with Betty, his beloved sister Sandra (Allan) Gummow, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, of whom he was so proud.

He was loved by all, and is most remembered for his keen insights, remarkable organizational skills and attention to detail, and his willingness to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand.

Service is at St Theresa Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr., Austin, at 1pm Friday June 13. There will be no calling hours, but the family looks forward to greeting you at the reception there following the service. Interment will be at a later date at St Margaret Cemetery, Minnetonka, MN.
