Emily Kay Whitehurst Obituary
Emily Kay Whitehurst Emily Kay Whitehurst, 38, passed away April 28, 2013 in Austin, Texas. She was born on November 23, 1974 in Austin, Texas to George and Sandy McGriff. Emily was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Whitehurst, of 5 years; son, George Whitehurst; daughter, Glory Whitehurst; mother, Sandy Van Velthoven; uncle, Thomas Taylor; aunts, Karen Romero and Linda Grant; cousins, Bryan Montgomery, Charlie Montgomery, and Audrey Maxwell; grandmother, Lois Taylor; brother, Lloyd McGriff and his wife, Stephanie McGriff; brother, Emmett McGriff; father and mother in-law, Gene and Sandy Whitehurst; brother and sister in-law, Steve Tremblay and Rebekah Whitehurst; and many nieces and nephews. Emily was an amazing wife and mother who adored her husband and children. She spent countless hours making sure she took care of her family in a very holistic approach because she believed in keeping them all happy and healthy in mind, body, and spirit. Her husband said she was the heart of the family. She showered them with unconditional love and affection that knew no bounds, and she touched the lives of many with her generosity, thoughtfulness, and a lot of times with just a smile. Her devotion to Jesus Christ was abundant and she never allowed her faith to waiver, even during difficult times. Emily had worked for the State of Texas in the recent past and was passionate about serving the citizens of Texas because she truly wanted to make a difference in their lives. She was passionate about continuing her education and she had attended and graduated from the Free Minds Project in 2011, which is administered through the University of Texas at Austin. She went on to attend some courses at St. Edwards later in 2011. Even though she has left this world, she is not gone. She lives on inside each of us, as she lives on through her beautiful children and husband that she loved beyond any measure of words. Her memorial will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Donations for her husband and children are being accepted through the following website link: http://www.gofundme. com/2r4qt0 or through her church, Christ Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas.
