Frances Judson Smith Obituary
Frances Judson Smith Frances Judson Smith (Mrs. Conwell Smith) was born May 11, 1931 in Austin and died April 12, 2013 at her home, after a lengthy illness. She grew up in San Antonio, in the same house her mother grew up in on the River. She graduated from Incarnate Word High School and attended the University of Texas where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. While at the University, she met her future husband and they were married March 26, 1951. They lived in Austin and part-time in Rockport. For many years, Frances was active in her sorority alumni group and at St. David's Episcopal Church. She was a past president of the women's group and volunteered at the church bookshop as well as their Next to New shop. Frances was a long time member of the English Speaking Union, the Austin Art League Group 1 and the Garden Conservancy. She was a voracious reader, a talented artist, an enthusiastic traveler and an avid gardener. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie and Bill Judson of San Antonio, her husband, Conwell Smith, and her son-in-law, Jim Clark. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Mrs. John) Caldwell of Knoxville, Tennessee, her daughter, Cynthia Smith Clark of Austin and her grandson, Judson Conwell Clark and his fiancée, Ashley Lautzenheiser, of St. Louis, Missouri. The family is very grateful to everyone who has cared for Frances over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Andrew's Episcopal School, 1112 West 31st Street, Austin TX 78705 or to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Ste 100, Austin, TX 78759 or a . The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 301 East 8th Street, Austin TX 78701, with a reception to follow.
