Helga Franziska Blum Mead, 84 of Lake Travis joined her daughter Pamela Ann in heaven on September 27, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Udell Mead, her son Marvin Udell Mead of Lakeway and three grandchildren, Christopher Millard of Round Rock, Tyler Mead and Madison Mead of Lakeway.

Helga or "Oma" as she was called by many was born in Munich, Germany on June 19, 1928 and grew up in Munich during the very turbulent times of WWII. During Reconstruction of Germany she met her future husband, Robert who was serving in the United States Air Force at the time. They married on May 21st , 1951 and eventually moved to Columbia, Missouri; San Antonio, Texas and ultimately called Austin and Lake Travis their home. Helga loved snow skiing in Germany and learned to water ski on Lake Austin and Lake Travis, enjoying the "lake life". She was also an accomplished bowler becoming a proud member of the ladies 200 club in Austin. Helga was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all.

A memorial service will be held October 22, 2013 at 2 pm at Marshall Ford Church, 5000 Marshall Ford Rd., near Lake Travis.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at or in Helgas name.
