John Thomas Boyd was born on March 11, 1938 and passed at the age of 75 on December 23, 2013. Born to Charles Edward Boyd and Opal M. Tatum in Bartlett, Texas.
John entered the Air Force in 1955 and was stationed at Maelstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana where he met his first wife Idella. John moved back to Texas and began his career in construction. He then worked for the University of Texas as a fire watch officer and helped convert the department to today's UT Police Department. He then went back to his love of construction and worked for Von Supply Company for over 35 years. During this time he was raised as a Mason. John was President and Chairman of the Board for the Travis County Sherriff's Posse and helped with the purchase and construction of Travis County Sheriff's Posse Arena. He impounded cattle for Travis County for many years. In 1972, he helped establish the Travis County Sheriff's Reserve Force and was commissioned under three Travis County Sheriffs. John was also a Deputy Constable for Precinct 2. John established his business, Boyd Construction and was a Locksmith working for Del Valle ISD for many years. He also loved hunting, fishing, working cattle and riding horses.
John was preceded by his parents, wife Idella, and sons Tommy and Ronny. He is survived by wife Paula, daughters Carolyn (Glen) and Barbara (Marvin) and 2 daughter-in-laws. Grandchildren, Bryan and Tiffany, Hannah and Wayne, Heath and Krystal, Brent and Megan, Michael and Jessica, Colby, Paige, Adam, and Emily. Great grandchildren Daelyn, Daecee, Bryton, and Kayden. Brother Charles (Margaret) Boyd, nephew Reed Boyd, ward Cindy Brewer and kinfolk in Montana.
Pallbearers will be 6 Grandsons, as well as Josh Applegate and Luke Gattis.

A visitation will take place at Harrell Funeral Home in Austin at 6 P.M. on Friday, December 27, 2013. The service will be at Harrell's on Saturday December 28, 2013 at 10 A.M. Dr. Ken Baldwin will officiate. Interment will be at Cook Walden Forest Oaks following the service.
