GRAY, Dr. Mady Oen|
Dr, Mady Oen Gray passed away peacefully in her home February 25, 2014. Dr. Gray was born in Salatiga, Indonesia to Oen Tjoen Hap and Ong Kiem Nio Betsy on July 9, 1931. After receiving her B.A. from the University of Indonesia, she came to the United States in 1957 on a full state scholarship. She proudly became a United States citizen. She completed her Master of Arts in 1960 and Doctorate in Applied Linguistics in 1979 at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Gray was a full professor and Foreign Student Adviser at Huston Tillotson College. In 1983 Dr. Gray opened her own language school upon the suggestion of dear friends and colleagues. Her school, IELS, grew into the second largest Intensive English Program in Austin. Dr. Gray had a big heart and touched the lives of so many people all over the world. Dr. Gray will be remembered and missed by her family, friends and many, many students.
Dr. Gray leaves behind her daughter, Kim, and her husband Bret Andrews, her son, Hap Gray, her grandson, Zachary Jacob Gray and many dear relatives.
