FISCH, Mark Edward

Mark Edward Fisch was born on July 31, 1957 in Austin, Texas and was called home to be with Our Lord on January 31, 2014. Mark graduated from Anderson High School, earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting and Literature (ABD), Voice Minor from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.



Mark was the co-founder of the Austin Handel-Haydn Society, a semi-professional community choral and instrumental ensemble that continues to the present day as the Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble. In addition to his activities as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator, he also appeared in several prominent music festivals as a soloist and chorister, including the Madeira Bach Festival (Portugal), Festival Williamsburg (Virginia), the Victoria Bach Festival (Texas) and the New Texas Festival.



Mark's experience in church music was extensive and included volunteer and staff activities in churches of various Christian denominations. He served as a cantor, section leader and director for adult, youth and children's choirs as well as handbell choirs and instrumental ensembles. He enjoyed traditional, contemporary, ethnic and folk idioms of worship music. Music was Mark's passion in life. He shared his gifts and talents with energy and joy, touching hearts and lives all for the glory of God.



His professional affiliations included the American Choral Directors Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, the Conductor's Guild, Music Educators National Conference, Texas Music Educators Association, the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda.



He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Edward George Fisch on September 6, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Lisa DeVane Fisch, his mother Deloris Ellis Fisch, his brother, Matthew Fisch and sister-in-law Denise Russell Fisch, his nieces, Emily Fisch, and Kathryn Fisch Posey along with her husband Devin Posey and their children, Ethan, Madison and Gavin.



The family will receive visitors at Weed-Corley-Fish on Thursday, February 6 at 6:30 pm with a Rosary Service to follow at 7:30 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10205 FM 620 N, Austin, TX 78726 on Friday, February 7 at 10:00 am.
