SORRELL, Mary Novella (Beever)

Mary Novella Beever Sorrell, 95, of Dripping Springs, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 2014, at Dripping Springs' Hill Country Care Center. Novella Beever was born on February 27, 1919, in Corona, New Mexico to Viola Sanders Beever and Edward Leroy Beever. Novella is lovingly remembered by her many relatives and friends as Auntie Bo.

Novella was first and foremost a teacher - whether it was by profession, at The Church of Christ teaching ladies bible class, or the lessons she taught to anyone who was willing to listen. Through her devotion to God, she developed unshakable morals and an unselfish soul that was willing to sacrifice everything to help others.

After graduating from Texas Tech in 1948 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree, she went on to receive her Master's of Arts Degree at the Texas Western college of the University of Texas at El Paso. While working on her masters, she taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders, which she continued to do for 14 years.

In 1961, she moved to Dripping Springs, Texas where she accepted a teaching position. It was there that Novella met Paul Sorrell, who was helping with the remodel of her sister's home, Stony Brook Farm. Novella and Paul were married on September 30, 1961 at Stony Brook Farm in Henley, Texas. Paul and Novella were married for 16 years when Paul passed away at the age of 76. With her determination, trust in God and selfless energy, Novella ran their ranch for over 30 years.

Novella's deep and abiding faith and commitment to the Church gave her much peace and fulfillment throughout her life. Although having no children of her own, Novella played a vital role in raising her three great great nieces and nephew, Lindsay, Colt and Mary Cathey, who survive her. She is also survived by her nephews, Carl Cathey of West Point Mississippi, Fred Cathey of Aurora, Illinois, Jayne Rybak of Reno, NV great nieces and nephews, Tracy Cathey of Lago Vista, Texas, Roy Cathey of Dripping Springs, Texas, Kyle, Kim, Krista, Kacie and Kaitlin Cathey, and Christa and JoAnna Cathey, Heather Lange and Ryan Lange of Henley, Texas. She is preceeded in death by her husband, Paul Sorrell, mother, Viola Beever, sisters, Dorothy Cathey of El Paso, Neoma Whetstone of Henley, nephew Leon Cathey and great nephew Mark Cathey.
