CULLINGTON, Norma Jeanne (Compton)

Following illnesses over the past year, Norma Jeanne Compton Cullington peacefully passed away at Seton Hospital in Austin. Texas on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. She was 87 years old. Jeanne was born on July 8, 1926 to A.B. (Kelly) & Pearle (Messenger) Compton in Fort Piece, Florida. She was the youngest of eight girls. Some of her accomplishments were:

She was a retired computer systems programmer-analyst for the US Postal service; She was appointed by Gov. Preston Smith to the Texas Commission for Status of Women; a Life Member VFW Auxiliary, Post 1922, Gainesville, TX.; Member Business & Professional Women since 1953 Cooke County B&PW Gainesville, TX.; and lastly, she was a certified lay speaking minister for the Methodist Church and had established the Ashwood Christian Fellowship at the Ashwood Retirement & Assisted Living Center where she has lived for the last several years.

Her greatest love, joy, and pride, however, had always been her family: She was married for over 50 years to Robert F. (Bob) Cullington, deceased, whom she followed all over the United States & Europe during his years in the US Army. Jeanne is survived by her son Dr. James R. (Jim) and Gayle Cullington of Austin, Texas, her son D. Edward (ED) and Barbara Cullington of Hood River, Oregon, her granddaughter Laura J. and Trey Christianson of San Antonio, Texas, her granddaughter Heather L. and David Spencer of Hutto, Texas, her grandson Jonathan Y. Cullington of Chesterfield, Virginia, her granddaughter Sarah L. and Nicholas Wood of White Salmon, Washington, great-granddaughter Faith P. Christianson of San Antonio, TX., great-grandson Chase G. Christianson of San Antonio, TX., great-grandson Loren J. Christianson of San Antonio, TX., great-grandson Nathan I. Spencer of Hutto, TX., great-granddaughter Analiese Emily G. Spencer of Hutto, TX., great-granddaughter Elizabeth Wood of White Salmon, Wash., and just born great-granddaughter Abigail Jeanne Wood of White Salmon, Wash. Jeanne was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Graveside Service will be held at Austin Memorial Park on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 1 pm followed by a 2 pm Memorial Service at Bethany United Methodist Church Chapel, 10010 Anderson Mill Rd., Austin, TX.

In lieu of flowers, it was Jeanne's wish that donations be made to Austin Smiles, ( https://www.austinsmiles.org/?nd=donate_summary ), Bethany UMC for Hill Country Community Ministries or to House of Friends.
