KEITH, Dr. Robert Eugene|
Dr. Robert Eugene Keith, resident of Austin since 1978, passed away peacefully on July 4. Born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma in 1928, he became a research engineer at the GE Research Laboratory in Schenectady, NY and Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, OH, and an Assoc. Professor of Industrial Engineering at Penn State.
He graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport, MS and the University of Michigan, where he earned a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering. He had appointments to Annapolis and West Point but chose Michigan so he could watch Tom Harmon play football. He also played cornet in the U of M marching band. He was married to Virginia Marie Mulkey (deceased) of Detroit for 53 years, and sang for many years in his church choir and the Austin Choral Union. He leaves two sons, Duane Keith and Paul Keith, both of Austin, and three grandchildren. His remains will be buried in Osage County, OK, where he will join his wife, parents, sister and grandfather.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, 7127 Bee Caves Road, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 19. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the MPS Society at www.mpssociety.org in memory of Kevin Keith.
