KOENIG, Roy Lee|
Roy Lee Koenig went into eternity Sunday night November 24, 2013 at Seton hospital in Austin, TX. He was born on October 22, 1954 to Harvey and the late Pat Koenig. He is survived by his father Harvey Koenig of San Angelo; his loving and faithful dog, BW (Boy Wonder); his sisters Margie Graham and Judy Shockey of Abilene; his brother Johnny Koenig of Hattiesburg, MS; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Pat Koenig and Grandmother Edna Perkins.
Roy loved to come to San Angelo to visit his mom and dad. He spent a lot of time in the music room recording songs with his parents.Roy had a big strong heart and was always helping other people. He was happiest when doing something for someone else. He loved his friends and family and showed that often in small and big ways. He was known for being loyal to those he cared about.
Roy joined the US Marine Corp in 1974 where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. The majority of his tour as a Marine was spent at the Naval Air Station in Grand Prairie, TX. There he meant and acquired special Marine friends that stayed in his short life even after the base closed. Years later, these friends made contact and from that point on, yearly reunions were made. Roy always looked forward to these and made it a point to take time off from his work to be there. Always there were "war" stories to talk about and shared with family and the young ones. Nick names for each always brought a laugh. In particular by Dale, David, Chuck and Frank and the rest of the BDK family members. "Oh What A Night" Bubba Roy and Semper Fi Marine.
Roy was employed at the Southwest Regional Office of Whole Foods in Austin. He started there on April 14, 1997 and his last official title was: Building/Office Manager and Accounts Payable. He received "Team Member of the Month" many times over the years. In 2010 Roy won the coveted "Team Member of the Year" award. Close workers there said that Roy was committed to excellence, a great team member and was always going "above and beyond" in everything he did.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov 30 at the funeral home. Visitation may be made prior to that. At the request of Roy, it will be a closed casket service and there will not be a procession to the cemetery and no gravesite services. Family members know the location of the grave and friends who wish to visit the gravesite can obtain directions from the Funeral Director or family member. Funeral services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, TX 76834 (325)-625-2175.
