Thomas HANSELL

Obituary Condolences

HANSELL, Thomas

Thomas (Tom) Palmer Hansell, 65, of Austin Texas passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 peacefully at home. He was born in Washington D.C. on March 30, 1948 to the late Ephraim and Charlotte Hansell. Tom graduated from MacArthur High School and received a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Texas in 1972. On August 29, 1970, Tom married the love of his life, the late Christy Hansell.

Tom worked for 25 years as civil engineer for the City of Austin, retiring in 2001. He continued his career in engineering, putting his extensive experience in public utilities, to work for Cobb Fendley as a senior engineer where he continued to work until the time of his death. Tom is survived by his children, Michael and his wife Lori, and Philip and his wife Harriet, of Durham, North Carolina; grandchildren Kylie and Macy Hansell; sisters, Karen Bedell and Kathi Harvey of Frisco, Texas and Betty Ade, his mother-in-law, and Donald Ade, father-in-law, of San Antonio, TX.

In his earlier years, as a proud father, Tom was a dedicated dad who volunteered as a boy scout leader and deacon of his church. He enjoyed taking his family on cross-country camping trips and as they grew older, working on old cars together with them.

In their later years, Tom and his wife Christy enjoyed traveling and antiquing. He was a proud Texan who owned numerous pairs of cowboy boots and cheered on the Longhorns. Both he and his wife were proud grandparents and always happy to make a trip to North Carolina for the grandchildrens' birthday parties, holidays and other special occasions.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 18 at Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home, located at 607 E. Anderson Ln in Austin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Boy Scouts of America.
