WHITEHEAD, Verlon "Gene"

Verlon "Gene" Whitehead, 75, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at his home.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 25 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin, Texas 78757. Reverend Jill Williams will be officiating.

Gene was born March 12, 1938 in Springfield, Ohio to Verlon and Mary Whitehead. Gene grew up in Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed at IBM from 1966-1993. After retiring from IBM he partnered with his lifelong friend, Ron Hunt in founding a company CD3. Gene loved to design and in his last days called his job a "hobby"; he worked until January 10, 2014.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Carson, his former wife, Dorothy Mitchell and their sons. He deeply loved his boys and their families: Anthony Eugene and wife Pam; Todd Eric and wife Cindy and their sons, David, Tony and Neil; Michael Stewart; and Matthew Lee and his wife Elizabeth and their daughters, Abigail and Remi. A special thank you to his friend, Janice McDougal, for her kindness and support to him.
