WINDOM, Wilbern Alfred "Windom"

92, passed away, Sept. 30, 2013. He was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Fredericksburg, TX. He was raised on ranches in the Hill Country by parents Wilbern Luellen Windom & Bertha Sophia Schlaudt. After graduating high school in Mason, TX, he moved to Austin, married Janell Rose Smith & joined the Army. He fought in WW II & Korea. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars and many other commendations. He retired as MSG at Ft. Bliss, his final post, after 20 years of service. In El Paso, where he lived for over 50 years he married J. Lorene Lewis Fields, worked in Civil Service, owned a TV repair business & made many devoted friends. He was a longstanding member of Masonic Lodge in Ft. Benning, GA. Windom is survived by his children, Wilbern Wayne Windom, (widowed by Phyllis Taylor), of Midwest City, OK; James Russell Windom & wife, Jane Cleveland Windom of Austin, &, Rozanne Elaine Windom Reagan & husband, Larry Lee Reagan of Austin. He had 5 grandchildren; Wilbern Phillip Windom, James Russell Essex, Tobin Jane Houston, Rusty Lynn Carroll, Michael Augustine Carrasco,& 1 great grandchild, Kiara Kathleen Carrasco. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Addie Jo Holloway & brother-in-law, Carl Lewis. In accordance with Windom's wishes, he will be cremated. At a later date, the family will celebrate his passing in a private gathering in the Gila Wilderness. The Family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Parson's House, Encompass Home Health, St. David's Medical Center, Hospice Austin, & many others. The Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Austin or Therapeutic Horsemanship of El Paso, TX.
