Dr. Wilbur Owen White died May 5, 2014 of complications from a fall that broke his back and a subsequent brain bleed. He was 86 years old.
Dr. White was born on Feb. 9, 1928 in Austin, Texas to Ben and Beulah White. He attended Austin High School and the University of Texas at Austin where he received his undergraduate degree. He then attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. After serving 2 years in the United States Air Force he returned to Austin to continue his medical practice as a General Practitioner. He practiced his entire career in Austin, retiring in 1994 due to illness. He was a skilled and caring physician, devoted to the health and wellbeing of his patients. He was a lifelong member of the Travis County Medical Association, A.M.A., and the American Academy of Family Physicians, keeping his medical license for his entire life.
Dr. White was married to his wife Alice for 63 years. He met her when she was 16 and they were both attending the University of Texas at Austin. They were married June 11, 1950, after graduating from the University of Texas and before he attended medical school. He was a devoted family who loved his wife, daughter and son very much.
Dr. White was preceded in death by his parents and his son Steven O. White. He is survived by his wife Alice and his daughter Karen.
Dr. White was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection for many years, having served as Senior Warden several times. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew and he helped coordinate the church dine out group. He especially enjoyed his evenings dining out with his nephew, Alton White, Jr., and his good friends Dr. and Mrs. Bill Halden.
The family will be forever grateful to Dr. Brian Sayers for giving us 19 more good years with Will.
A visitation will be held from six to eight o'clock on Wednesday, May 7th at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. Austin, Texas 78752.
The funeral service for Dr. White will be held at two o'clock on Thursday, May 8th at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 2200 Justin Lane, Austin, Texas 78757, with interment to follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
