Willard Charles Duncan passed away at the age of 88 on Monday, February 17, 2014. He was born in Smithville, Texas to Mable and Willie Duncan. He was a very hardworking and honorable man and taking care of his family was his first priority. Going fishing was his favorite way to spend his free time.
Willard served in the United States Navy in World War II as a Stewards Mate, and afterwards worked for the State of Texas for 27 years until he retired in 1987. After retirement, he was self-employed for many years doing lawn maintenance work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mable and Willie Duncan; brothers Edward Duncan, William Duncan, and Andrew Duncan; son Gerald Duncan; and daughters Regina Duncan, Linda Duncan, and Brenda Duncan.
Willard is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Verda Duncan; a sister, Alvera Taylor; sons Charles Duncan (Wilma), David Duncan (Felisa), Darrell Duncan, and Derrick Duncan; daughters Kay Howard (Craig), Kathie Tucker (Wade), Vickie Hairston, Cynthia Duncan, Angela Carter, and Lisa Duncan; 33 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends.
Funeral services will be held in Austin, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church at 1010 East 10th Street. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
