Donald H. Egbert

January 27, 1925 - November 24, 2012

KEIZER - Donald H. Egbert passed peacefully at Willamette Valley Hospice on November 24, 2012. Donald was born on January 27, 1925, to JB and Ermol Egbert in Mt. Vernon, IL. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Barbara Jean Egbert, his two daughters Marcia Connerly (William) and Kelly Jones (Sam); his son Michael Egbert (Sherry); his brother Olen of Chandler, AZ; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Don joined the Marine Corps during WWII and saw the raising of the flag at Mt. Suribachi before being wounded at Iwo Jima and later received a Purple Heart.

Don married Barbara Jean Storment on December 31, 1949. In 1953, they moved to Albany, Oregon where Don became a Kraft Foods Distributor and then in 1965 a New York Life Agent. While in Albany, he was active in the Jay Cees and later as an officer in the Albany Elks Lodge. In 1989, a move to Salem Towne afforded the retiree hours of volunteerism, pickle ball, poker and always golf.

Don loved a round or two of golf, card games, all things nature, animals, pecan pies and most of all his family. Don always loved his Marines and was disappointed when they wouldn't accept his re-enlistment at the age of 80!

Donations in his honor may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice or the Humane Society.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 29th, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
