Edward D. Barker, Sr.
June 10, 1932 - March 14, 2013
SALEM - With his wife and children at his side Edward D. Barker Sr. passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on March 14, 2013. Born on June, 10 1932 in Eugene, Oregon to Russell and Hazel Barker, Ed spent his childhood there with his beloved older brother John.
Ed served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Tatnuck. While stationed in Bremerton he met and married the love of his life (Marilyn) Jean Miller on August 2, 1953. With their three children they eventually settled in Corvallis, Oregon. After a career in the retail industry, which included owning his own store, he and his wife relocated to the Salem-Keizer area of Oregon in 1985.
A loving family man, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, coin collecting and cheering for the Oregon Ducks. Ed especially treasured his two granddaughters.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Jean, son Edward D. Barker Jr. and his wife Laura Lee of Fairbanks, Alaska, daughter Emma Gilleland and her husband John of Portland, Oregon, son Russell Barker of Keizer, Oregon, granddaughters Anne and Mary Gilleland of Portland, and his niece Vickie Liable and her three children Michelle, Scott, and Shane. Ed was preceded in death by his brother John Barker in 1971.Ed requested that no memorial service be held.
