SALEM - Eileen Ruth Johnson, 89, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on May 21, 2013. She was born April 30, 1924 in Courtney, North Dakota to Henry and Annie Smith. She spent two years as a school teacher before marrying Norman Johnson and having four children. They lived on a farm in Wimbledon, North Dakota until moving to Salem, Oregon in 1963.
Eileen was best known for her love of Christ and family and her generous hospitality. Within her sweet gentle spirit there was strength and perseverance. She cherished the people in her life and nurtured those around her. She loved to take care of her home and garden, celebrate family birthdays, play games with her grandchildren, and travel.
She is survived by her husband Norman Johnson; children: Joan (Tom) Brink, Michael (Molly) Johnson, Darryl (Tracey) Johnson, and Jackie (Jim) Roth; grandchildren: Jeff (Haley) Brink, Julie (Sean) Monica, Nathan (Megumi Ishimaru) Johnson, Christopher (Anne Marie) Johnson, Brian (fiancé Minda Davis) Johnson, Erin Johnson, Andy (Jess) Roth, Luke Roth, and Haley Roth; great grand children: Jamison Ishimaru, Jonathan Ishimaru, and Alyse Roth.
Following a private grave side service, there will be a Celebration of Life today, May 24, 2013 at Emmanuel Bible Church in Salem, Oregon at 2PM.
Donations may be made to the church mission fund in honor of Eileen. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
