Tribal Elder Walks On
EUGENE A. HUDSON
Tribal elder Eugene Hudson walked on May 17, 2014 at Grand Ronde. He was son of Abraham Hudson and Maude (Warren) Hudson. He was 93.
Gene joined the Army 10 days after Pearl Harbor in 1941 and served throughout WWII. He served in Tunisia, Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, North Appennines and PO Valley. He earned the American Theater Service Medal, Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He served with 3142nd SIG SV GP, 10th Mountain DIV, 5th Army. He was discharged after the war.
"Uncle Gene" was always happy and had a very good sense of humor that was enjoyed by everyone. He lived in Salem most of his life and worked in various positions. He was a die-hard Portland Trailblazer fan. He participated in numerous Native American activities including Indian Education committee in Salem, Chemawa Veteran's pow wow committee, Siletz USDA program and numerous Tribal activities with the Grand Ronde Tribe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings. He also was preceded in death by his son Donald Hudson. He is survived by his sons Ronald Hudson and Bill Hudson of Keizer, Oregon. He had 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He had numerous relatives of the Grand Ronde Tribe.
